The Kanawha-Charleston Health Department and the Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority will host a second COVID-19 vaccine clinic geared toward those with autism and other developmental disorders on Friday, May 28.
The clinic, planned for 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Bible Center Church, will offer second doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for those who got first doses at our special needs clinic on May 7.
First doses of the COVID-19 vaccine will also be available. KCHD and KCEAA are partnering with Community Autism and Education Systems (CARES), Autism Services Center and Bible Center Church on the clinic.
The clinic will provide reduced wait time, a smaller crowd size, and visual supports. Participants can remain in their vehicle or receive the vaccine indoors in a sensory friendly environment. Representatives from Autism Services Center and CARES have provided training to clinic staff prior to the event.
Vaccines will also be made available to family members and support staff of those with developmental disorders. The clinic will be closed to media while patients are present, but representatives from partner organizations will be available for interviews.
