The Kanawha-Charleston Health Department is sponsoring a community forum in the Kanawha County Commission chambers at the Kanawha County Courthouse on Wednesday, March 22, from 6 – 7:30 p.m. The purpose of this meeting is to give community partners and members of the public an opportunity to voice their concerns about the Affordable Care Act in a structured, non-confrontational manner. A meeting summary will be prepared and shared with those attending who request it along with stakeholders and decision makers.
“The Kanawha-Charleston Health Department,” according to Dr. Michael Brumage, executive director and health officer, “as the state’s first nationally accredited health department, is required to obtain input from the community on major issues surrounding health care issues in the community and to formulate recommendations to decision makers.”
“West Virginia has been getting a lot of attention from the national media regarding the effects of the Affordable Care Act in West Virginia,” Brumage said. “We know about the advantage of extending health insurance to thousands of people, but we’ve also heard about premium increases for health insurance coverage. This forum will provide people an opportunity to voice their opinions on the ACA.”
